Acceptable Usage Policy
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) – Active Computers UK Limited
This AUP protects our network, resources, customers, and peering networks, ensuring:
- High-speed network performance
- High availability services
- Compliance with applicable UK laws
Clients must comply with the latest version of this AUP. Using our services constitutes agreement to our Terms and Conditions and this AUP. Breaches may result in immediate termination and deletion of files.
Clients must not:
- Use services for illegal, offensive, or indecent material
- Infringe intellectual property rights (copyright, patents, database rights, trademarks)
Active Computers UK Limited will cooperate with authorities or rights holders and reserves the right to withdraw services when necessary.
Applicable UK laws include:
- Computer Misuse Act 1990
- Protection of Children Act 1978
- Criminal Justice Act 1988
- Prevention of Harassment Act 1997
- Data Protection Act 1998
- Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002
Clients must take reasonable steps to avoid breaching foreign laws, including EU regulations or laws of other countries.
Service warranties and liability are detailed in the General Terms of Service. Clients agree to hold Active Computers UK Limited harmless in the event of legal claims.
Irresponsible usage includes:
- Sending unsolicited email (spam)
- Attempting to breach third-party security
- Abusing unlimited/uncapped services
Web storage may not be used for torrents, streaming media, backups, or as an email platform. Resource-intensive programs must be monitored. Violation may result in suspension or termination.
- Keep login credentials confidential
- Ensure software is virus-free and updated
- Protect public-facing servers from exploitation
Active Computers UK Limited may block malicious traffic or suspend accounts. Proxy servers and unauthorized services are prohibited.
Clients may not:
- Send unsolicited commercial email (UCE/Spam)
- Operate open mail relays
Permitted: Opt-in mailing lists with consent and opt-out mechanism (Data Protection Act 1998). Excessive emails may be purged after 30 days.
- Clients are responsible for website/server content and legal compliance
- Active Computers UK Limited may remove material violating the AUP
- Suspension may occur due to excessive server load or feature abuse
- High-resource applications (e.g., Shoutcast, Minecraft, streaming) are restricted
- Clients must keep login credentials confidential; backups are the client’s responsibility
- Account closure results in deletion of all associated data
Clients must not:
- Attempt to breach system security
- Run programs that monitor network traffic or compromise privacy
- Circumvent copyright protection or encryption
Violations may result in immediate termination and prosecution.
- No attacks against Active Computers UK Limited or other networks
- No unauthorized mailing lists or exceeding quota-based services
- No permitting illegal or inappropriate use by others
- IP addresses remain property of Active Computers UK Limited
- Affiliates may not earn commission from personal use or own websites
